NYC- Wednesday

We started our second day in NYC by taking the subway down to Chelsea. I was so excited to see the highline and Chelsea market.

I just have to add here that we took the subway everywhere! Over four days, we only took a cab to and from the airport and one other time. The rest was all subway and walking! And it was great! Once you understand it, the subway is pretty easy to navigate and I always felt safe (although it does help having a husband who is 6'5 by your side- haha)!

We had to walk quite a ways once we got off the subway, but eventually made it to the highline. This is overlooking Chelsea.

This is the old train station on the highline. I loved the tiles.

There are benches all down the highline and people just sit and hang out. It's like central park for this neighborhood.

Chelsea Market is right below the highline, so we made our way over there.

Isn't this the neatest map? I loved it!

Chelsea Market was incredibly neat. It had an old warehouse feel to it, but was brand new and so nice and clean. I loved it!

We browsed the shops which was fun. They were all different and interesting.

I was so excited to go to Eleni's. I read about it before our trip and just had to have a cupcake. It was still a little early and we hadn't eaten lunch yet, so I settled for a mini cupcake. A red velvet mini. It was wonderful! The frosting was so good!

Next to Eleni's was Anthropologie! LOVE! It was a large store and we browsed for a while.

I LOVED these shell measuring spoons! I should have bought them. When I took this picture Stephen asked why I was taking pictures inside the store. HELLO? My blog!! He still doesn't get it. Sigh, anyways, back to the shell measuring spoons. Aren't they cute! Oh I wish I would have gotten them. Maybe I will check our Anthro out and see if they have them. They remind me of Mama Lil. She was the best baker and she loved the beach and collecting shells. I have a jar in my bathroom of shells she collected for me about a year before she passed away. I love them so much!

We made our way back through to the restaurants to find somewhere to eat lunch. We decided on Friedman's. I had the most wonderful BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avacado, tomato) ever!!! It was seriously so good. I had to take a picture (which makes Stephen look at me like I'm crazy, but oh well!) Stephen had a hamburger, I think. See, if he would let me take pictures of his food we would remember these tiny little moments. But somehow I don't think he's worried about that.

Once we left Chelsea Market, we walked around a bit in West Village. It is a neat neighborhood. I was trying to find some boutiques, but we never found them and we were getting tired or walking.

There was this fountain in Jackson Square, a park in West Village, and as I went to take this picture, the bird landed on the fountain right as I snapped it.

I also thought it was funny that this park was called Jackson Square. You see we had planned a trip to New Orleans and the week before changed our minds to NYC. The famous park in New Orleans is Jackson Square! Funny, right?

This fountain was in the middle of the park and this bird landed just as I pressed the shutter down. So perfect! I love this picture!

We took the subway up to Madison Square Garden. There is a HUGE train station under this and we got lost trying to get out!

Photobucket

Then we walked over to Macy's, which is HUGE! It is a whole city block wide. They even have a Starbucks on 3 floors.

This is the original wood escalator in the store.

After Macy's we had to go pick up our tickets for the Late Show.

While Stephen was waiting in line I went around the corner to check out Hello Deli. Rupert was outside smoking (bad Rupert). I was too shy to say anything so I just took his picture like the paparazzi. The people he is talking to live above the deli. They called him "Rup".

After we got our tickets we went back to the hotel to freshen up and then headed back to The Late Show. Before the show they go over a few things. They teach you how to laugh, not yell or scream woo-hoo, but laugh. And they insist you laugh at everything- even if you don't think it's funny.

We went into the theater, which was gorgeous. you couldn't take pictures inside, but I wish I could have. We were seated in the balcony. Soon after being seated the band came out and played and then Paul Schaffer came out. Just after Paul, Dave came out. He told us a few jokes and then in a few minutes the show started. They film the show just like you see it, no real editing. During the commercial breaks the band would play and Dave would talk to the producers and the assistants to the people on the show. Juliana Margulies, Keith Oberman, and a band from Austin were on the show. It was a lot of fun and such a neat experience.

One thing that was really surprising is that the show has a reputation for being freezing cold. I was really worried about it, but we were not cold at all. Not even slightly chilly.

After the show, we took the subway down to China Town and walked to Little Italy. China Town can be summed up in four words: rolex, louis vuitton, rolex? We weren't even shopping or looked like we wanted to shop. You would just be walking down the street and an asian woman would start walking beside you and whisper, louis vuitton, rolex?

We made our way to Little Italy and found a place to eat. Il Palazzo. All these next pictures are blurry because I only took my point and shoot and turned the flash off.

We sat in the patio which had a glass roof which was nice. It was a great meal!

Photobucket

After dinner we stopped for some gelato. I had raspberry (it's actually Italian sherbert) and Stephen had vanilla gelato.

It was so good!

We took the subway back to Times Square and walked to the hotel and crashed after another busy, yet fun day!
